Crown Gardens and Landscapes of Southampton are excited to be continuing expansion plans despite the damaging effects of COVID-19 affecting many small businesses.
Following a successful winter in 2019, Crown Gardens and Landscapes had everything in place to expand their business at the beginning of Spring 2020. After almost 5 years of ups and down getting the business off the ground, this was finally going to be their year!
That all took a sharp turn when on 23rd March the message to ‘Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives’, meant that owners Sarah and Dan Prince had to make their toughest business decision yet…to close their gardening business for the foreseeable future.
“Like many other small business owners, the order to ‘Stay At Home’ was a real blow to myself and Dan, and our staff, not to mention our customers” owner Sarah recalls. “We were so hopeful and optimistic about the future of our business, having worked tirelessly over the past five years getting it off the ground and all of a sudden we were dealing with complete uncertainty. We wondered if the business would survive let alone expand” adds Sarah.
Sarah and Dan displaced their plans for expansion in the hopes that the business could simply make it through 2020. Thankfully 9 weeks after the initial lockdown the announcement was made that they could re-open.
The Crown Gardens and Landscaping team were met with a hugely positive and appreciative return by their clients, happy that their gardens could be tended to again. Even more positively and thanks to the most amazing Spring weather, people have been spending more time than ever in their gardens, resulting in an unprecedented influx of calls for re-designs and changes within their gardens, making their expansion dreams seem possible once again.
Co-owner Dan comments, “We’re absolutely thrilled to be coming out the other side of this pandemic with jobs for our staff and the ability to continue serving our clients as we always have, as well as new ones. It’s never been more important to have a safe, tidy and tranquil, private outside space to enjoy, and we are so pleased that we are able to help people achieve this.”
Things are definitely looking up for this small Hampshire business and from the 13th July 2020 they will have an additional gardening team in place, ready to offer garden maintenance and landscaping services to more of the local community, and with reduced lead times for carrying out work.
